Opening the Space for SEL
9:00am - 12:00pm Pacific
This session will offer a collaborative and engaging experience designed to open the space for SEL. This will be followed by an interactive presentation to introduce the what, why, and how of IFSEL’s Whole Community Framework.
It starts with Us: Focus on Teacher SELf-Care
1:00 - 4:00pm Pacific
Our second session will focus on the critical importance of teacher self- and communal-care. We’ll explore the personal and professional factors that influence our sense of alignment with our best Teacher SELf, and offer a range of strategies that can nurture and sustain it. We will uncover the values that motivate us, and become clearer about our true power to create community and support each other.
Foundational Tools for SEL
9:00am - 12:00pm Pacific
Our third session begins with a deep-dive into the practice of Check-In - a profound and simple tool for children and adults to bring balance and emotional health into their daily lives. The group will then split into two sessions:
This session introduces an effective lesson sequence of foundational SEL skills and tools that empower young learners to develop self- and social-awareness and engage in deep and meaningful education.
This session introduces IFSEL’s Principles for a Thriving Advisory Program, and shares some low-prep, high-impact experiences that can activate SEL and engage our adolescent learners.
Nurturing and Integrating our SEL Teacher Tools
9:00am - 12:00pm Pacific
Our fourth session begins with a short interactive experience designed to reconnect participants and refine our goals and intentions for this course. The group will then split into two sessions:
Elementary educators naturally weave SEL through the days of early learners. In this session we will shine a light on IFSEL’s “Teacher Toolbox” to activate the opportunities for SEL in K-3rd Grade self-contained classrooms, specialist classes, lunch bunch groups, recess and more.
This practical session will provide 3rd - 12th Grade Teachers and Administrators with practical strategies for embedding SEL in every classroom and within any learning moment. We’ll offer examples of SEL integration from different ages and disciplines and space for discussion and collaboration between participants.
Broadening our Horizons and Setting Sail
9:00am - 12:00pm Pacific
This final session will expand our investigation of SEL to focus on school-wide systems and structures than underpin and nurture SEL for the whole-community. There will be space for reflection, action-planning and reflection.
