Larry Maley is an experienced educator, coach, community builder and facilitator. He is a third grade teacher at Speyer Legacy School in New York City who also serves as the school's IFSEL chair and boys' basketball coach. He enjoys his role at Speyer which allows him to assist administration, staff and students in developing a shared vision of social emotional learning and community trust and belonging. Prior to coming to Speyer, Larry instructed Middle School Writing, History, and Humanities in diverse communities in Philadelphia, Phoenix where he worked to develop cultural awareness programs at both schools. He also spent two years at Poly Prep in Brooklyn, where he served both as Head Fourth Grade teacher and a facilitator of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion meetings for faculty and staff.  He has a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Pittsburgh and a Masters of Education from Temple University in Philadelphia. Outside of formal teaching roles, Larry continues to DJ for corporate and private events, and spends time working with The Make The World Better Foundations to build stronger playgrounds, community awareness and involvement in Philadelphia.  He also was the Director of Youth basketball camps for the Philadelphia 76ers. In his spare time, Larry resides in New Jersey and enjoys travelling and spending time with his family.  He has three children ages 12, 9, and 7.
