I work with early years, will I get something out of the Institute?
The Institutes are designed for K-12th grade educators and sessions are offered that meet both age-specific SEL outcomes, as well as K-12 themes. That said, many early years specialists have attended Institutes over the years and have found the experience impactful, and personally and professionally renewing. You can see our Institute Schedule for more information.

How do I know which sessions to choose and when do I select them?
A sample schedule can be found here. The final schedule will be published 6 weeks before the Institutes begin. All sessions have a recommended Grade level indicator on the schedule. There are multiple paths that are options, but no fixed ‘tracks’. You’re welcome to pick any session in which you are interested.

We will email participants one month in advance to ask them to select their session choices.

If I have done an IFSEL online training, will I get something out of an in-person summer Institute? Our in-person Institutes offer comprehensive, experiential, intentionally-designed SEL professional development. The depth and richness of the overall experience is different from our shorter online Workshops. Some elements of our online Workshops are included in the Institute content, but there are always other sessions to choose from at those times.
The most notable benefit of attending the Institute is the element of personal and professional renewal and the ongoing interactions with other educators.

A sample schedule can be found here.

I am a parent can I come to the institute?
IFELS’s Summer Institutes are designed for educators and administrators.  Many of our sessions focus on classroom implementation of SEL practices. For parents, we recommend our ***Parent and Caregiver Support***

I am an educational consultant, can I come?
Consultants are welcome to join one of our Summer Institutes.  However, consultants, as well as all attendees must comply with our Materials Use Policy.

We would like to provide this training for our entity faculty, do you have options for private sessions?
Yes, IFSEL provides SEL Professional Development for schools, districts, and other organizations. More information on IFSEL’s consulting, online, and in-person training can be found here.

    Do you offer financial aid?
Yes, IFSEL is committed to empowering all educators to attend our Summer Institutes and we have Financial Aid programs to support this vision.  Applications for financial aid can be made here.  Notification of Financial Aid awards will occur in mid-March.  After that date, we will accept and assess applications on a rolling basis.

Do you offer a group discount?
Yes.  SEL implementation is always better when done as a team. We encourage organizations to send a group of participants and offer 4 registrations for the cost of 3 as a group discount.

    Do you provide hotel recommendations?
IFSEL provides a list of hotels near each Institute venue.  However, the hotels listed here are for reference only, and inclusion does not represent a formal endorsement by IFSEL.

Do you provide shuttles from public transportation?

Unfortunately, we do not offer a shuttle from the Metro Station to our Summer Institute Locations.
Whether using your own car, Uber, or a taxi, IFSEL will help facilitate carpools: look for a noticeboard near the registration table for participants to connect with one another.
