At its heart, IFSEL’s "Staying Human in the Age of AI"
Bay Area Institute is an invitation to look ahead with optimism — to help schools not try to outpace technology, but to stay profoundly human within it.

Guiding questions we will explore:
As artificial intelligence reshapes how we live and learn, the need for Social and Emotional Learning has never been clearer. Young people need more than technical fluency — they need empathy, self-awareness, courage, and care.
Educators will explore how SEL can meet this moment by grounding digital literacy and AI education in humanity and belonging. Together, we’ll consider how Futures Literacy and SEL help students imagine possibilities, question assumptions, and build the inner resources to shape their world, recentering curiosity, compassion, and connection as true readiness for the future.

Our Staying Human in the Age of AI Institutes are designed to:

I work with early years, will I get something out of the Institute?
The Institutes are designed for K-12th grade educators and sessions are offered that meet both age-specific SEL outcomes, as well as K-12 themes. That said, many early years specialists have attended Institutes over the years and have found the experience impactful, and personally and professionally renewing. You can see our Institute Schedule for more information.
How do I know which sessions to choose and when do I select them?
A sample schedule can be found here. The final schedule will be published 6 weeks before the Institutes begin. All sessions have a recommended Grade level indicator on the schedule. There are multiple paths that are options, but no fixed ‘tracks’. You’re welcome to pick any session in which you are interested.
We will email participants one month in advance to ask them to select their session choices.
